Deborah's tip re: flux: "I use No. 6 silver brazing flux good to 1600 degrees for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.  This was recommended to me by a very fine jeweler and jewelry teacher.  They have other silver brazing fluxes too but customer service said “unless the No. 6 didn’t work for me, don’t mess with the other ones.  And while it doesn’t have fluorides in it, it is a chemical so you need ventilation etc.”.  The Customer Service woman was very good. They have various distributors-superiorflux.com."

"Bette is a wonderful instructor. She is clear and well-prepared. She focuses on individual students as well as the group and sincerely supports everyone's success. Her passion for her medium is evident and it's contagious! On a personal level, I had little experience with steel and none with keum boo, so the learning curve was a bit steep. It would have helped me to have a couple of precut shapes, even just circles, so I could jump in more quickly and get more practice. That said, having the two patterns is helpful for having a "ready-made" project that provides practice in working with steel (piercing and forming) as well as the keum boo technique. Looking forward to more classes with Bette and Anneville!" ~ Nancy L., San Diego, CA.
